Latest News: UNISON strike impacts on Ideal Business Show Wales
(27/06/08) Council strikes confirmed: UNISON's industrial action commitee has today confirmed that local government strike action will go ahead on 16-17 July in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
As a result, Ideal Business Show Wales has been re-scheduled to take place on 3-4 September 2008.
"Thoroughout the union and across the country our members working in local governemt have given sustained strike action the green light," said UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis.
The action affects 600,000 of the union's local government members, including social workers, librarians, school meals workers, refuse collectors, surveyors and teaching assistants.
They will walk out to protest this year's below-inflation pay offer of 2.45%....READ THE FULL PRESS RELEASE FROM UNISON HERE...
Mark James, Managing Director of Ideal Business Show has said: "We have considered the affect this course of action will have. The value of this event to the Welsh economy is too great and the expected return in investment from participants is too important for us to ignore such an impact this industrial action may cause.
As a result we have spent a considerable amount of time and effort to source a new date for the show which unfortunately means that we are forced to move venues as the Millennium Stadium is unable to accommodate the show outside of the original dates in July and some dates in August. Clearly due to the main holiday period, August is not a good time to hold an event of this size and stature therefore we are pleased to announce that Ideal Business Show Wales 2008 will now take place at the National Indoor Athletic Centre on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th September."
